Kristina Dvorak
MFA
Brief
bio: I have a BFA in Visual Studies from Iowa State University, a BA in
Art Education from Mt. Mercy College, and a MA in Art from the
University of Iowa.
Artist’s
statement:
Working with
digital photography allows me to control reality. It allows me to take
one image and change it into several images, the possibilities seem
endless. I begin a piece by taking pictures of everything around me,
burnt paper in a trash can, fabric up close, or the bark of a tree.
Changing reality allows me to create new images for viewers to become
immersed in. The viewer may no longer know what s/he is looking at.
The artwork is complete when reality has been altered so that a new
subject is created or the image challenges what the viewer knows to be
true. It becomes critical for the viewer to use their imagination to
participate in the viewing experience and to envision new images within
my work.
