Peggy Blood

Brief bio:
Dr. Peggy Blood is a university professor and practicing artist in
Savannah, Georgia USA. Blood spent most of her professional career in
northern California and moved to Savannah in 1998. She hold the title,
Distinguished Professor, Savannah State University, University System of
Georgia.
In college Dr. Blood studied painting under John Howard of Arkansas, a
protégé and colleague of Hale Woodruff, (Harlem Renaissance artist). As
a student of the segregated south, she is the first African American to
receive a MFA degree in art from the University of Arkansas in
Fayetteville. In 1978 she was given the title as Outstanding Bay Area
Artist in Oakland, California.
Artist’s statement:
My work was inspired by those things we dream about, peace, love and
happiness. Most of her works are center around women, their challenges,
aspirations, and happiness.
